About the Allegheny Front
Mission and Goals
The mission of The Allegheny Front is to engage and inform the audience to deepen a respect for nature and inspire all to act in an environmentally responsible manner by exploring topics relevant to the lives of the people of the region. The goals of The Allegheny Front are 1) to create a well-balanced environmental radio program that has lasting impact on the community, 2) to raise the awareness of listeners on state and local issues that affect the environment and 3) to create a sense of shared community and purpose for the protection and conservation of land, air and water.
History
The Allegheny Front began in 1991 as a 15-minute weekly environmental update produced at WYEP-FM in Pittsburgh by volunteer Lucy Lafitte. Due to strong listener interest, the program expanded in its first year to a half-hour show featuring interviews with people active in the local environmental movement. Today, The Allegheny Front continues to increase the breadth and depth of its environmental coverage. In its 14th year, The Allegheny Front continues to serve the community as the most insightful source of local and regional environmental news and information on the radio. The program explores environmental issues affecting the community through stories, interviews, news, and commentaries
