Townhouse Gives Back to Energy Grid
    Air date: Week of 05/12/2010
    Story length: 3:50
    Producer: Jennifer Szweda Jordan
Energy meters in a Pittsburgh development look the same, but Sota Construction's Ken Jubic points out that the one for a home designed to use no energy from the grid, spins in reverse, indicating the home's actually producing energy.
A green townhouse development now includes a model that uses net zero--and on sunny days--negative amounts of energy. Builder Ernie Sota says that like other similar homes around the country, stimulus dollars have helped make possible building with cutting edge green technologies. But zero still isn't necessarily affordable. The model home in Pittsburgh's South Side costs upwards of $425,000.
